I've always heard that Ayers Rock, or Uluru, is located just outside Alice Springs. As a matter of fact you'll find the rock 480 kms. south-west of AS! It will take you a day to get there! In the Outback State, it's just around the corner... Anyway, it rises 348 metres above the surrounding plains and is nearly 9 kms. around its base. Photo: Björn N.
